It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rhoda Barnes age 94 of North Sydney, on the evening of Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.  Rhoda was born in Harbour Mille, Newfoundland on January 16, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Loven and Margaret (Rideout) Barnes. She was pre-deceased by her husband George Barnes, a daughter Brenda (Barnes) Myers, brothers; Arthur and Roland Barnes; sisters Clara and Ellen Pardy and Beatrice Taverner. 

To remember and celebrate her life, she leaves behind her three sons; Levi (Peggy) Barnes, Cornwall, PEI, Richard (Wendy) Barnes, North Sydney, NS, Eric (Carla) Barnes, Cranbrook, BC, son-in-law Will Myers, Moncton NB and her brother; Willoughby Barnes, North Sydney.  Rhoda is loved and remembered by her grandchildren; Barbara Koscielny, Edmonton, AB, Michael Barnes, Ottawa, ON, Elaine Barnes, Cornwall, PE, Tracy Clements, Musquodoboit Harbour, NS, Cory Barnes, Yarmouth, NS, Johanna Champion, Calgary, AB, Tara Barnes, Calgary, AB and Deanna Barnes, Cranbrook, BC. 

During her life, she was honored and blessed with great grandchildren: Liam Barnes, Mikhail and Natalya Koscielny, Katelyn and David Barnes, Riley and Jackson Clements, Connor and Cameron Barnes as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rhoda will always be remembered for her love of a good game of cards as well as her times fishing with George.  It wasn’t until recent years that she would share their favorite fishing spots.

In honoring Rhoda’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service and a celebration of life will follow at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the W.J.
