It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Russell Evans, age 76, on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born February 28, 1943 in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Leo and Elizabeth (Adair) Evans.
Robert had been employed with Proctor & Gamble papermill in Toronto, Ontario for over thirty years.
He and his wife Donna moved to Sydney Mines in 2006 to spend their retirement years back home in Cape Breton.
Robert was a regular Saturday patron at the Northside Downs in North Sydney where he enjoyed watching the horse races.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna (Gardner) Evans; his two daughters, Nancy (Scott) Gray, Tottenham, ON, Deborah Evans, Nanaimo, BC; his two grandchildren Jesse and Justis; his sister, Betty Starratt; brothers-in-law, Bill (Jean) Gardner, Kerry (Doris) Gardner; sister-in-law, Diane (Ray) Clarke and by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother, Leo “Bud” Evans and sister, Jean Bragg.
Visitation for Robert will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, followed by prayers with Rev. Douglas Beck.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity.
