Her mother, Kitty, said that when she first saw her beloved daughter after a difficult birth, the baby looked like a fragile little bird, and so she named her Robin. Robin lived with health challenges throughout her life, yet those challenges never defined her spirit or limited her capacity to love. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, and she extended the same affection to the pets who shared her life. Dog, cat and parakeet companions enjoyed her gentle care over the years.
Robin passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Toronto on October 8, 1957, Robin was the daughter of the late Hugh and Catherine “Kitty” (MacKinnon) MacDonald.
Robin was proud of her accomplishments. She earned her GED and completed every training course she was offered. She found joy and purpose in her work at Zellers and spoke of her job with such pride that those who listened felt inspired to shop there.
Robin loved and was loved by many people: her parents, Catherine “Kitty” and Hugh MacDonald; her stepfather, Anthony “Crock” MacIntosh; her surviving brothers, Hugh and Larry and sisters-in-law Janet and Sheri; also her nieces Allegra, Mackenzie and Kaitlin. Robin was predeceased by her very dear partner Wayne, whom she held close in memory and heart. Robin will be remembered with love by her cousins across Canada, and by the many people in North Sydney whose lives she touched.
Robin’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated ICU staff who cared for her with compassion.
A celebration of Life for Robin will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Deacon Dave Lewis officiating.
In honour of Robin’s memory, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society (Sydney), or another charity that is meaningful to you.
