It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Robin Hector Grant age 91, on Friday November 17, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney on April 13, 1932, Robin was the son of the late Dr. Hector and Annie (MacIntosh) Grant. Robin was a marine engineer working for many years on coastal vessels, ferries and deep sea-vessels. The last twenty-three years of his career, he was employed by Canadian National Railways, later CN Marine and Marine Atlantic on ships to Newfoundland, retiring in 1996.
He is dearly loved and will be missed by his wife; Isabel (MacRae) Grant, a son George (Cathey) Grant, Kingston, ON, a daughter Dianne (Gerald) Hearn, Bedford, grandchildren Ashley (Jamie Dawson) Hearn, Adam (Kristin) Hearn, Katrina (Joe) Tremblay and Jonathan Grant, great grandchildren John, Garrett and Brynn Dawson.
Besides his parents, Robin was predeceased by sisters Lorna (MacCallum) Goudge and Leila (Dan) Campbell, brothers Rindress (Brenda) Grant and Alpin Grant, also by an infant brother.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Doug Kohlsmith and all the staff of Miners Memorial Manor for the special kindness and caring provided to Dad during his time there.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday November 23rd at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or with Rev Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Robin’s memory may be made to Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
