Obituary

Ronald C. MacDonald

Frenchvale, NS

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Clarence MacDonald, age 77, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in North Sydney on April 23, 1944, Ronald was the son of the late Howard Stephen and Mary Jean (MacNamara) MacDonald.  He worked for many years as an orderly at St. Rita Hospital in Sydney.  Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Frenchvale.  He had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid bowler and dart player and loved to golf and play softball. He loved to play cards with family and friends especially tarabish and crib. Ron loved gardening was an excellent carpenter and handyman. He truly loved antique cars and enjoyed going to many car shows during his retirement years.  In his younger years he enjoyed many annual camping trips to Ben Eion Beach and had many great adventures with family and friends. Ron loved to attend dances and especially enjoyed the polka.  Ron was quite the tease, loving to get a smile or chuckle from everyone, but he also endured lots of teasing himself with his name Ronald MacDonald!

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Bernice (Clarke) MacDonald, his two daughters Karen (Richard) Glencross, Bangor, Maine, Heather (Paul) Kerr, Sydney, his four grandchildren Morgan, Laura, Colin, Haley and his sister Marie (Allan) MacIntyre, Glace Bay.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Dannie (Patricia) MacDonald.

We would truly like to thank the staff of Unit 4B and the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and compassion for Ron while he was under their care.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private funeral mass will be held for Ronald at St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale with Rev. Vargheese Puthuparambil officiating and under the care and direction of W.J.
