Ronald Rose
North Sydney
It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Arthur Rose, age 87, loving husband, father of six beloved children who he was very proud of, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in North Sydney on September 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Arthur and Clara (Pieroway) Rose. Ronald was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic retiring after 35 years of service. In his younger days Ronald was an avid skater and swimmer, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. We especially remember our Sunday drives which took us all over Cape Breton, to our beach days at Red Point. Although not having gone far in school he was smart. He always “bragged” about having a grade six education because he went through grade three twice. He could fix anything and especially loved to tinker with cars.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Taylor), his children Donna (James) Foster, Suzanne (Joseph) Cox, both of Sydney Mines, Gary (Janette Greenough) Rose, Airdrie, AB, Bonney (Matt) Murphy, Sydney, Paul (Karen) Rose, Miramichi ; his son-in-law Winston Matheson, Enfield; grandchildren Jonathan Fells (Ian), Sacha Cox, Joe (Cass) Cox, Jocelyn Foss, Robert Rose, Mary Lynn MacPherson, Nathan, Jacob and Nick Rose, Sarah and Will Matheson; his four great-grandchildren Brayden, Nevaeh, Maliyah and Charlotte; his brothers Jack Rose, Sydney Mines, Jimmy (Wilma) Rose, North Sydney and Lou (Paulette) Rose, Halifax, many nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his daughter Faye Matheson, grandchildren Emily Jean Fells and Daniel Foster, his sisters Gertrude Dunphy, Ada Haggerty, Ruby Harnish, Bertha McCormick, Pamela Boyden, Zita Fowler, brothers Andrew, Jerry, Kenneth and Wilfred Rose, half-brothers Maurice and Dave Rose, half-sisters Ann Holland, Nellie Coulet and Edith.
A funeral service for Ronald will be held 2 p.m. Saturday November 27, 2021 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Canon Reg MacDonald. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place with proof of vaccination, NS Photo ID and the wearing of masks in the funeral home.
