It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Roy H. Pond, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Twillingate, NL he was the son of the late Harvey and Lily (Price) Pond.

Roy had been employed as a steward aboard the CNR boats and later as ship’s carpenter with Marine Atlantic, retiring from the MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood in 1995.

He was a past officer with his union local 285 of CBRT&GW, a former member of the Fulton Orange Lodge, the Royal Black Preceptory and of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Linda (Clark) Pond; his two daughters, Sharon Cooke (Randy Townsend), Coxheath and Angela (John MacInnis), Edmonton. Also, by his six grandchildren, Angela Rene, Amanda, Kaleigh, Johnathan, Kyle, Zackary; eight great grandchildren, Taylor, Patrick, Zachary, Aidan, Bryden, Aundrea, Cassidy, Evelyn; by his sister Mae (Bill Barnes), North Sydney and four sisters-in-law, Sharon McCormick, Jacklyn Clark, Bonnie Clark and Liam Bird.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Harvey in infancy and Dwayne in 2011, a brother Norman; sister Phoebe and brothers-in-law, Raymond Clark (Cavell), Wayne (Brenda) Clark and Eric (Mary) Clark.

There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Covid-19 protocols regarding limited seating, social distancing and wearing of masks will be strickly adhered to.  Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
