It is with heavy hearts the family of Russell Gilbert Anderson (“Happy”) announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

Born on January 28th, 1946, in West Point, Newfoundland, Russell moved with his parents as a young boy to North Sydney, Cape Breton where he lived most of his life.  He resided at My Cape Breton Home for seniors for the last 4 years.

During his working life Russell was employed at the H.B. Nickerson Fish Plant in North Sydney for 25+ years.  Russell will be remembered as an avid sports fan who enjoyed baseball and hockey, especially the Blue Jays and New York Islanders. He loved to talk about his teams, especially when they were on a winning streak. Russell could often be found playing darts, elimination bingo or one of his favorite card games.

Russell was predeceased by his parents Joyce and Thomas Anderson. He will be lovingly missed by his brothers and sisters; Calvin (Donna), Raymond, Lloyd, Beverly Devison, (Ron), Patricia Christie (Richard), Bonita Gouthro (David), Darlene LeBlanc (Armand), Wanda Oakes (Wayne), Alex (Sandra), Donnie, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Known to many as “Happy”, Russell was well known throughout the North Sydney community and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A visitation for Russell will be held from 1–3 pm, Monday, November 27, 2023, with a funeral service following at 3:00 pm at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, with Patrick O’Neill officiating.  Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.  Online condolences can be left for the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
