We regret to announce the passing of Samuel Joas Saksariak, age 84, on Saturday March 14, 2020 at the Northside Community Guest Home, where he lived as a resident since March 2019.

Sam was an Inuit gentleman who was born in Labrador, February 2, 1936. He was the son of the late Joas Saksariak and Beata (Anala) Saksariak Daniel. Sam worked in Goose Bay, Labrador for the RCAF as an electrical lineman. He moved to Cape Breton over fifty years ago and settled in the Gabarus area where he lived off the land, hunting and fishing as was customary to his Inuit culture. Sam also worked for a time at Stora Nova Scotia Forest Industries.

Sam is survived by a sister Sarah Anala.

No visitation will be held. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
