It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sadie MacPherson, age 89, dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 8, 1930 in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Hawley) Penny.  Sadie worked at the Stella Maris Residence in North Sydney and later at the Northside Community Guest Home for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the time she spent caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sadie was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her three sons, David (Bonita), Georges River, Sheldon (Helene), Michael (Thelma) both of Sydney Mines; by her daughter Ann Marie (Bob) Brown, Whitecourt, AB; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband David MacPherson, two sons, Kevin (Jeannie) and David, a daughter Mary in infancy; six brothers, Jackie, George, Mansell, Alex, Gordie and Ambrose “Bud” Penny.

The family would like to thank Dr. Khodadad and Amanda at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Dr. Michel McKeough and Louise, the staff of 5East and 4West at the Northside General Hospital, Palliative Care, VON, Homecare and the staff at Capital Pharmacy for the care and compassion shown to Sadie during her illness.

There will be no visitation due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.   A funeral mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or and burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
