It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, companion, sister, aunt and friend, Sharon Ann Bishop, age 76, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney on March 21, 1949, Sharon was raised in North Sydney by her parents Charles and Beatrice (Swan) Richardson.
Sharon worked in the housekeeping department at the Northside General Hospital, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. Among the things she enjoyed the most was beach time, trips to Cuba and to Membertou. She loved her boys, and spending time with family was most important to her.
Sharon is survived by her companion Joe Brown; sons Greg and Jamie (Sherry) Bishop; grandchildren Devin, Mitchel, Quintin, Paiton, Ashton, Eric and Madison; great-grandchildren Dominic, Nova, Aurora, Luna, Nathaniel and Ryder. She is also survived by her sisters Tina Richardson (Albert), and Ruth Maloney (Cliff); brother Blake (Carol) Canavan; step-children Leo, Linda, Carol, Janice, Jeffrey and Gregory; several nieces and nephews; also, her best friends Betty Lou Gullage and Darlene Brown.
Besides her parents, Sharon was also predeceased by her birth parents Stanley Canavan and Gloria Edmunds, her brother Gregory Richardson and two step-children, Wayne and Darren Brown.
Visitation for Sharon will be held from 7-9 pm, Friday, November 21, 2025, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 22, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations in Sharon’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
