Sheila Fiander Parks Obituary

SHEILA LOUISE FIANDER PARKS

North Sydney

With saddened hearts we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Sheila Louise Fiander Parks on May 24, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in North Sydney on December 9, 1952, Sheila was the daughter of the late Harold & Susan (Payne) Fiander.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 49 years Harold, son Jason (Maryann), Alberta, daughter Kerry, at home, step-son Chris (Mel), Ontario; grandchildren Michael, Keilan, Aaron, Mikayla, Mckenzie; siblings, James Fiander (Joan), Pictou County, Queenie Fiander (Lee), Truro, Bernie Fiander (Ramona), North Sydney, Gordon Fiander (Lynn), Ontario, Joyce Fiander (Rick), Ontario, Paulette Haddad (Chris), Sydney, as well as many nieces and nephews, including her god-daughter Amanda.

Besides her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Riemland and Theresa Shepherd.

Sheila’s entire world centered around her children and beautiful grandchildren. She was at her happiest spending time with family and caring for her fur-babies. Sheila loved music and dancing and was truly fun to be around – a Tobin Rd party wasn’t complete without her. She enjoyed taking pictures, going for drives, and spending as much time outside as she could. Sheila was best known for her Sunday dinners and being the family entertainer; her door was always open to everyone. She made many friends throughout her life and 30 years working at the fish plant; she will be dearly missed by all.

Sheila was incredibly brave throughout her illness and was blessed to be surrounded by loving family and friends. A very special thank you to her niece Diana and friends Christine and Greta – the love and support you gave Sheila will forever be remembered and appreciated.  Also, a special thank you to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s ICU unit and Cancer Center for the compassionate care you provided.

In keeping with Sheila’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, when Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted. A private family service will be live streamed at 11:00 a.m. Thursday on the W.J. Dooley Facebook page. Any donations in Sheila’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Patient Care Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
