Sheila (Sheaves) Pyke

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Alfreda Mary (Sheaves) Pyke, age 83, on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Port Aux Basques, NL, on June 24, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Florence (Kettle) Sheaves.
Sheila was known by many. She took care of countless foster children, volunteered at the Northside Community Guest Home, loved playing cards and was frequently seen at the bingo hall and the North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club.
Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Austin Pyke, her son Gary (Debbie), two grandchildren Leanne (Gabriel), Halifax, Corey (Lauren), Dartmouth, two great grandchildren; Maria and Austin and by her sister, Kathleen Macdonald, Florida.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Frank Dennis Pyke and her four sisters, Mildred Squarey, Mazie Florence, Elinor Lydia and Bernice Connors.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of palliative care at the Regional Hospital, Sheila’s niece Joanne Matthews (Port Aux Basques, NL) and her close family friend, Linda York of North Sydney.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, immediately followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Frank Unger officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Haley Street Adult Services Center Society, North Sydney.
