It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Shirley Mae Harrietha, age 82, on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at the Northside Community Guest Home. 

Born in Sydney Mines on October 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Henrietta (Bonnar) Matthews.  Shirley devoted her life to being a homemaker for her family.  She loved flowers and gardening.  She is survived by her two daughters Roslyn (Reg) Driscoll, Halifax and Belinda Cox, Coxheath; her grandchildren Sacha (Justin), Rose (Daniel), Joseph (Momina), Peter and Brittany (Korey); her great-grandchildren Ella, Alanya, Henry and Luca; her sister Gloria Barnes, Sydney Mines and brother Lawrence (Viola) Matthews, Sydney; her sisters-in-law Marie Scott, Amaralles Capstick, brother-in-law Lovato Harrietha, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ralston Harrietha, her two sons Calvin in infancy and Blaine; her sister Gladys Haggett, sister-in-law Marie Harrietha and brothers-in-law Ferdinand Harrietha, Tom Capstick, Randall Barnes, Fred Haggett and nephew Lovatino Harrietha.

Thank you to Dr. Paul Hickey and to the Northside Community Guest Home for the excellent care and compassion shown to Shirley over the past year.

There will be no visitation.  A graveside committal for family and friends will be held for Shirley at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Sydney Mines with Deacon David Lewis officiating.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
