Spencer Strickland Obituary

Spencer Strickland

North Sydney

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, companion, brother, nephew and friend, Spencer MacKenzie Strickland, on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Halifax on June 25, 1987 to Russell Strickland and the late Rev. Deborah (MacKenzie) Strickland.

Spencer had a personality that was larger than life and loved to help anyone in need. He had an energy that made him easy to befriend. Spencer brought a laugh to anyone he came in contact with.

Spencer was a hard worker who enjoyed several different jobs during his life, one being as a seaman on the Great Lakes and most recently with Louisbourg Seafoods. Spencer had a very deep faith in God. He loved his precious Jolene so deeply, more than all the stars in the sky. He'd always encourage her, say how beautiful she was. Any little thing she needed or desired, he'd flash that dazzling smile saying "I got you babe".

Spencer will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, his “Girly Girl” Jolene Vickers; his father Russell Sr. (Mary Sue) Strickland; his brother Russell Jr.; his sister Katie; two nephews Gavin and Kane Grace; Stepsisters Stephanie Fearon (Jesse), Denise Belzile (Josh LeBlanc), Mallory Belzile (Nathan Blackmun); by his mother and father-in-law Billy and Patricia Vickers whom he adored.  Brothers-in-law Michael (Lisa) Vickers, Billy (Tammy) Vickers; Special uncle and Godfather Bill Strickland, special Nanny Joan Hillier; Maternal Godparents Raymond (deceased) and Elma MacKenzie; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as close friends Ronnie & Mary, Mike & Sissy, Donnie Patterson, Dennis, and cousins Justin McFarlane & Kathy.

He was predeceased by his mother Rev. Debbie Strickland, by his paternal grandparents Matthew and Annie Strickland and his maternal grandparents, Rindress and Gavinna MacKenzie.

The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who went above and beyond in caring for Spencer.

There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Black Rock Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
