STANLEY P. BROTHERS
NORTH SYDNEY
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley P. Brothers, age 97, on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on December 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Philip and Catherine (MacNeil) Brothers. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Nora (Chisholm) Brothers in 2016, also by his brothers Arnold, Fred, Joseph in infancy, and sisters Elizabeth Barclay and Shirley Brothers.
Stan is survived by his seven children who he loved dearly: Paula LeBlanc, Claudia (David) Hughes, Michele (Bob) Higdon, Clare (Joe) Currie, Stephen (Mei), Monique (Tony) Forbes, and Brendan (Lorena). “Bup” (as he was known to his family) leaves behind his fifteen adored grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Justin, Kate, Neil, Genevieve, Sarah, Philip, Morgan, Joseph, Caroline, Emily, Maggie, Aidan and Rowan. He was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Jayna, Emma, Elaina, Seth, Zoey, Gabriel, Lottie, Margot, Harry and Nora. Dad is also survived by his sisters Mary Williston and Marguerite Cullinane. He also had many nieces and nephews as well as a close group of wonderful friends and neighbours.
Dad was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Joseph’s Parish, North Sydney.
He was a well-respected machinist in the marine industry in Cape Breton and retired from the Canadian Coast Guard College in Westmount as Superintendent of Marine Trades. Family was everything to Dad. He was a man of great faith. He was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour.
Our father’s heart was forever broken when he lost Mom, the great love of his life. They are finally reunited, and this gives us comfort. He will be forever loved and missed.
A funeral mass for Stan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
