It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Stanley Winfred Drake, at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Belleoram, Newfoundland on November 2, 1939, Stan was the son of the late Stanley and Winnifred (Savory) Drake. Stan was a draftsman by trade and founded A-1 Storage Systems Ltd. in Halifax in 1975. He was fortunate enough to retire at a young age to fully enjoy life with his wife and his family. From the time he was a small boy Stan loved music and learned to play the guitar. Through the years he would participate in jam sessions and local charity events with lifelong friend Cecil Poole (The Newfie Jammers) on the south shore of Nova Scotia and later with his friends from the Florence Legion.
Stan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda (Stewart); daughter, Rev. Brenda (John), and son, Paul (Vickey) of Chester; grandchildren, Sarah (Bruce) and Devin, as well as great-grandchild, Malcolm; and his last surviving sister, Jean Poole.
In addition to his parents, Stan was predeceased by his siblings – Levi, Murdock, Johnny, Allan, Gertie, Edith, and Marion.
A funeral service for Stanley will be held at 3 pm on Friday, July 25, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. There will be no burial at this time. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the funeral service. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
