Susan “Sue” Isabel Lewis

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Susan “Sue” Isabel Lewis, age 81, on Monday, May 30, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in North Sydney on April 22, 1941, Sue was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Quirk) Perry.  She had a number of jobs throughout her life, Postmaster at Canada Post in Port Hood, preparing personnel income tax returns privately and at H&R Block; she also worked at the Royal Bank for six years and later as the financial secretary at St. Joseph Church until her retirement.  She served as a councilor for the town of North Sydney, which she was very proud of and served many dinners catering at weddings and banquets at the Legion and the Knights of Columbus halls in North Sydney.  She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney and served on many committees within the parish.  She loved animals but her greatest love was for her large family she and her husband George raised together along with many foster children they looked after as well.

She is survived by her children, Harry (Philomena), Westville, Margaret MacIsaac, Louisdale, Michael (Judy), Beaumont, Alberta, Patsy Lewis-Miles (Victor), Sydney Mines, Brad (Patty) Lewis, Grand Prairie, Suzanne Roy (Kevin), Lantz, Laverne (Jim) Lewis, Dundas, Scott (Jodi) Lewis, Quispamsis and William Lewis; her 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren; her two sisters Madeline (John) Brewer, Howie Centre, Myrna MacGuire (Colin), Sydney Mines; her two brothers David “Gervie” and Robert “Bucky” Perry, both of Manitoba; also her many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Sue was predeceased by her husband George in 2015, her son Peter Munro Lewis, her brothers William “Bunny” Perry, Michael in infancy, her sister Gladys in infancy.

Visitation for Sue will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Lewis officiating.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
