It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Sylvia (Bona) Reynolds, age 74, of North Sydney, on August 2, 2024. Born in North Sydney on September 22, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Thelma (White) Bona.
Sylvia is survived by her partner Johnny MacIntyre (Fox); her son Shawn (Jennifer) O’Donnell, daughter Kate (Trevor) Apestiguy, along with Johnny’s children – Troy (Beth) MacIntyre, Jennifer (Tony) Julian and their families. Sylvia was a very proud Nana to her grandson Jake (Catherine), and Nanny Ren to her two granddaughters - Maddie and Lily. Sylvia recently became a great-grandmother when Jake and Catherine welcomed their first child, George Daniel. Also surviving are Sylvia’s siblings - Joey (Linda), Elaine (Roddy), Brenda (Gary), Jeannie (Chuck), Betty (Pat), Midge, Yvonne and sister-in-law Marlene Bona; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were like family.
Besides her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her brothers Stevie, Johnny, Reggie, and Jimmy Bona along with sister Marina MacDonald.
Sylvia and Johnny loved to spend their time looking for that special piece of beach glass. She created beautiful pictures for family and friends and has left an impressive collection of treasures for her family. She felt that no matter what was going on in the day or what challenges she was facing, the beach was where that all went away. Mom spent many years working for the Cape Breton Regional School board, having made many friends along the way.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Stephanie Langley for the years of care provided to mom. Thank you to the dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Center, Palliative Care & Hospice Cape Breton.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 3pm on Tuesday, August 6, at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, with a funeral service immediately following at 3 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Marjorie Serafinus officiating. The service will be live-streamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, the family urges people to make a donation to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society, Hospice Cape Breton, or to consider donating blood in memory of Sylvia. Online condolences can be left for the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary page at www.wjdooley.com.
