It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Regina “Gonie” Harrietha, age 88, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Northside Community Guest Home.

Born in North Sydney, October 4, 1934, Gonie was the daughter of the late Hubert and Elizabeth (McCormack) Boutilier. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or. Mom was devoted to her faith in God. You’d never see her without her prayer beads in her hands or in the back pew at mass every Saturday evening. In her younger years, she had many jobs but her most important one of all was taking care of her husband Jack and their children. She also enjoyed joining Jack on the dance floor at many of the Kinsmen events. Mom loved creatures of all kinds, she especially loved feeding the feral cats and the birds. This brought her so much joy.

Surviving to mourn her loss is her daughter; Barbara (Carl) Morgan, North Sydney, her sons Chris (Tracy) Harrietha, Sydney and Robert Harrietha, North Sydney, daughter-in-law Arlene Harrietha, Sydney Mines, one brother Freddie (Bev) Boutilier, Ontario; her grandchildren Rose (Jake) Baranek, John Ryan, Kayla (David) McBurnie, Chris (Tracey) Morgan, Carl, Kerri (Trevor) Iannetti and Brian; also her 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Gonie was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” Harrietha, her son John Harrietha and six brothers and sisters and many brothers and sisters-in-law and her best friend of 80 years Sister Marcella Gouthro.

We would like to thank the Northside Community Guest Home, Munroe Place where she spent the last six years. They made her feel so at home.

No visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at St Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Bras d’Or. A reception will follow at the North Sydney Legion, Branch 19, Archibald Avenue, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
