Theresa (Boudreau) Reid

With heavy hearts, the family of Theresa Reid, aged 96, of North Sydney, announces her peaceful passing on May 18, 2025, at Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Bras d’Or, Theresa was the daughter of Raymond (Remi “the Barber”) and Gertrude Boudreau. She was predeceased by her husband Austin, her parents, her sisters Yvonne (Larry, also deceased) and Ellen (Davie), four of her children: Terrance (in infancy), Ray, Audie, and Geralyn (Michael, also deceased) and her grandson Joey.  

Although she experienced profound loss and sorrow in her life, Theresa’s courage and steadfastness were a beacon to all who knew her.  She remained the foundation of the family—the steady presence that brought everyone together. Her unwavering strength reflected the depth of her faith and her boundless love for those closest to her.  She was the best mom, aunt, nan, and grandnan anyone could have hoped for.

Theresa leaves behind her beloved children: Joan (Roland), Ronnie (Jeannie), and Darren (Maureen); her cherished sister Emma (Eddie, also deceased); daughters-in-law Donna and Leona, her grandson Joey’s wife Jennifer; grandchildren: Roddie, Debbie (Mike), Billy (Lisa), Julie (Andy), Maryanne (Jamie), Jonathan, Amanda, and Jesse; thirteen great-grandchildren: Charlie, Daisy, Maude, Alex, Austin, Ethan, Josh, Luke, Mya, Sundra, Suri, Marley, and Carson; and several nieces and nephews. She will be profoundly missed by all who loved her, including her devoted friend of many years, Mary Smith.

Theresa was known for putting others ahead of herself and her house was always a hub of excitement; the place where her children’s friends gathered and were generously welcomed and fed. 

With her adventurous spirit, Theresa was up for everything. She spent many years cross-country skiing, line dancing, walking, swimming at the pool, going to the beach, meeting with her coffee friends, and taking part in church activities. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to the Caribbean, Texas, the Calgary Stampede, Toronto, and countless concert bus tours. A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she especially treasured pilgrimages to Sainte Anne-de-Beaupré with friends and loved ones. She was also a longtime member of the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club, where she enjoyed dances, socials, picnics, and card games.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful home care workers from Northside Homemakers and the nurses and sitters of 2 West at Northside General Hospital for their compassionate care during Theresa’s final days.

A funeral mass for Theresa will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will be held at the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club.
