It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Valerie Rogers, age 61, on Sunday, March 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Sydney Mines on September 17, 1961, Valerie was the daughter of the late Gordon and Bessie (MacAulay) Rogers. She was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church in North Sydney and enjoyed volunteering with her mother Bessie at church events. Valerie was very family oriented and loved to take part in any of the family gatherings.  She enjoyed her Saturday night hockey games especially the Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes.  Valerie was a dedicated active member of the TOPS Local 757.  She enjoyed going to their meetings and conventions.  She was also TOPS Queen in 2007.  She enjoyed tole painting, crafts and she always enjoyed spending time with her parents on their vacations to Florida as well as taking care of her cat Lucky. 

Valerie is survived by her sisters Treva (Duke) Fraser and Karen Campbell, nieces and nephews Shawn (Susan) Fraser, Stacey (Karl) Fraser-Legace, Ryan (Terri Lyn) Campbell, Samantha Campbell (Aaron), Shelley Campbell (Brandon), special grand-nieces and nephews Kara, Faith, Bridget, Myla, Asher and Emerson as well as her fur baby Lucky.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law Donald Campbell.

We the family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, VON and the doctors and nurses of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit for the excellent care and compassion.  A special thank you to the Palliative Care team for the loving support and comfort during this difficult time.

Visitation for Valerie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation.
