With heartfelt sadness we the family announce the passing of Vera Strickland, age 93, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck, where she resided the last number of years.
Born in North Sydney on June 29, 1927, Vera was the daughter of the late David and Pauline (O’Handley) Tobin. Vera was employed for many years with Alteen’s Jewelry Store in North Sydney. She was a volunteer with the Northside Community Guest Home, she enjoyed skating and dancing. Vera was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Vera is survived by her daughter Mary Capstick, her son Ralph Strickland, grandchildren Brendan and Billy Capstick, Damien Strickland; by her brother Ernie Tobin, also a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ralph Strickland, her brothers Russell, Doug, Connie, Blowers “Fritz” and Gerard Tobin; her sisters Margaret Scott, Audrey Tobin.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck for the excellent care and compassion given to Vera during her time there.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
