Virginia Walsh Obituary

Virginia Walsh

North Sydney

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Vivian Virginia Walsh, age 96, on Thursday April 14, 2022 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.

Virginia was born in Moncton NB on March 13, 1926, to the late Earl and Florence (Aylward) McKenna and later adopted by the late William J. and Bertha (McKenna) Dooley. She worked as a Laboratory Technologist in Halifax and Montreal in her younger years, later at Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines and Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and the North Sydney Garden Club. She served for a number of years on the board of directors with the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation. She had many talents, she was a beautiful knitter, loved sewing, quilting, and needlepoint.  She loved to travel with family and friends, trips to Europe, all across Canada, many places in the United States but especially enjoyed the many trips that she and her husband Joe took to Florida. During the summer months they also enjoyed entertaining with family and friends at the cottage in Georges River.

Virginia is survived by her children; Bill (Roxanne), Peter (Eileen), Maureen (David) King, Kathy Boutilier, Laura (Emerson) Fiske, grandchildren; Alex (Kerry) Walsh, Matthew (Mary), Michael (Breagh) and Laura Walsh, Cara Jones (Kyle), Stephen (Cathy), Anthony (Veronica) and Angela King (Matthew), Joshua Boutilier, Adam and William (Abbey) Fiske, great grandchildren Cole, Molly, Michael, Landon, Carter, Willow, Myles and Eloise, a half-sister Joyce, half-brothers Robert “Bob” and Ralph Lutz, her sister-in-law Caroline Campbell and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Walsh, brothers Clarence and Earl (Kay) McKenna, Ed Williams, sister-in-law Doris McKenna, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Our family would like to thank the staff of Soldiers Cove at Harbourstone, Dr. Steven Hall, staff of My Cape Breton Home and Dr. John Kirkpatrick for the compassion and care shown to Virginia over the years.
