Walter F. Bragg
North Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter F. Bragg, age 93, with his daughters by his side, on Saturday March 21, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, October 21, 1926, Walter was the son of the late Casper and Marcella (Reid) Bragg. He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic, retiring in 1990. There he made lifelong friends with co-workers and many stories of their antics were shared around the kitchen table. Dad was a true outdoorsman. He was an avid cross-country skier, taking to the trails well into his eighties. In summer he would be fishing for that elusive big one, golfing or treasure hunting with his buddies. He was a passionate gardener and was happy sharing his strawberries and tomatoes with friends and neighbours.
Walter is survived by his daughters Lorna (Larry) and Sharon (Jay), grandchildren Candice (Enzo), Jake and Shane, great grandchildren Zofia and Jaxen, brothers Harold (Millie) Bragg, Jack (Jacqueline) Bragg, Ray (Shirley) Bragg, Don (Jessie) Bragg, sisters Joan Bragg and Jessie (Brent) Beck.
Besides his parents Walter was predeceased by his wife Doris (Young) Bragg in 2011, brothers Cecil and Gordon Bragg, sisters Thelma Pettipas and Sarah Dowling.
A funeral service will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care unit Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or the SPCA. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
