It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Wayne John MacNeil age 63, on Saturday January 23, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Halifax, September 12, 1957, Wayne was the son of the late John C. and Shirley (Merlin) MacNeil. He was employed for a number of years at National Sea Products in North Sydney. He enjoyed walking and would often be seen walking through town. Wayne loved animals, cats and dogs especially, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the beauty of Cape Breton.
Wayne is survived by his sisters; Donna (Joe) McNeil, Comox, BC, Karen MacNeil, Sydney, Judith Boutilier, North Bay, Mary MacNeil, Truro, Natalie Marucci (Anthony), Barrie, ON, brothers; Blair MacNeil, North Sydney, Kevin and John (Debbie) MacNeil, Fort McMurray, Allan MacNeil, Sydney, Shaun (Mary) MacNeil, Bras d’Or, several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team at the Northside General Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cancer Clinic, VON, Northside Homemakers and his special angels Thelma MacNeil and Mary MacDonald for all of the care, support and kindness shown to Wayne during the past number of months.
A funeral mass for Wayne will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed, masks will be mandatory and limited seating will be available in church. Services will be live streamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, Facebook page. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care at the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation.
