Wilfred "Ninny" Rose Obituary

Wilfred J. “Ninny” Rose

Sydney Mines

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Wilfred Joseph “Ninny” Rose, age 55, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Born in North Sydney on September 12, 1965, he was the son of the late Wilfred “Hemmo” and Mary (Donovan) Rose.  Nin was a jack of all trades no task was ever too big for him to take on.  He was a welder by trade and worked at the Halifax Shipyard.  He also spent numerous years working beside his lifelong friend and brother-in-law Bud hanging rain gutters.  He was an exceptional backyard mechanic and carpenter.  He would help anyone he could, even random strangers, though Nin seemed to know everyone.  His favorite past time was playing crib and watching game shows, Jeopardy being his favorite.  Nin held a little extra special place in his heart for his niece Kim Bailey and her husband Kevin, whom he considered a brother.  He had the biggest heart and was always doing something to make you smile, especially when he would be telling his stories from back in the day.

Nin is survived by his son Joey (Sarah) Devoe and daughter Johnena Devoe, his grandchildren Clay, Sakura and Emmit; also surviving are his brothers David, William “Tiger”, Maurice “Mick” (Patsy), Duke (Stacey), his sisters Clara “Lokey” (Cyril Young), Linda (Bobby), brothers-in-law Bud Pero, Derrick Devoe, many nieces and nephews, all who hold a special place in their hearts for “Uncle Nin”.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his twin brother Michael, sister Darlene and a brother Michael Anthony in infancy.

Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation as per Nin’s wishes.  A private family burial will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.   Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
