William Allan Jessome Obituary

Allan Jessome

Sydney Mines

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father and grandfather, William Allan Jessome on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Northside General Hospital, at the age of 83, surrounded by his devoted family

Born in Florence on May 8, 1938, Allan was son of the late Stanfield and Gertrude (Nicholson) Jessome. For much of his early life, Allan worked as a second class power engineer with the Canadian Coast Guard. Throughout his years spent at sea, Allan maintained a true passion for his career while he traveled the globe; most notably being time spent in Antarctica and Venezuela. In 1996, Allan retired from his career, concluding as an engineer on the Great Lakes.

Allan was a dedicated family man who never failed to find time to tinker on his large property at home. Allan used his engineering skills long into his life, during his valued time spent tinkering with machinery, particularly old cars. He was an avid reader with a passion for the history of Cape Breton. In his later years, Allan found great peace and joy on the front verandah of his beloved Shore Road home.

Allan is survived and will be profoundly missed by his wife of 59 years, Joan (MacDonald) Jessome; his daughter, Heather (Gary) Williams; and son, Todd (Angela) Jessome. Allan will also be missed his four beloved grandsons: Josh Williams, Mitchell Williams, Kyle Jessome and Matthew Jessome; as well as his two sisters: Virginia Jessome and Cecelia Jessome; sisters-in-law: Vivian Jessome and Roseann Jessome; brothers in law; George Jerrett and Cameron Jessome, along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Allan was predeceased by his brothers, Theodore, Robert and Michael; and sisters Ann Marie McAdam, Bernice Jerrett and Brenda Jessome; brother-in-law “Brother” Jessome, Blair Jessome, and Billy McAdam.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Sitters on the Northside General Hospital’s 5th floor, for the continued, compassionate care given to Allan.
