It is with complete and utter heartbreak that we, the family, of Bill McKee, announce his peaceful passing at home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 1, 2025. Born in North Sydney on April 14, 1950, Bill was the son of the late George and Dorothy (Collins) McKee.
Dad met his soul mate, our mom Marie, at the tender age of fifteen, and went on to spend the next sixty years creating a beautiful family and amazing memories that brought him great joy. Next to his family, his next love was anything to do with kids, leading him to dedicate over 50 years of his life with Little League Nova Scotia in various capacities which included coach, president, umpire, and most importantly the kid’s biggest cheerleader.
Dad worked for Marine Atlantic for 42 years as a stevedore before his retirement, and then took up permanent residence at any ball field, ice rink or dance competition that his grandchildren were involved in. Never missing a family gathering, he enjoyed every second of his time with his precious family. Dad enjoyed a good game of 45’s with his card buddies and was a fierce competitor, making many friends along the way.
Dad is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie (Matthews); his daughters Anita (Roy) Marks and Michelle, and his only son, Billy (Danielle) McKee; his seven grandchildren - Jennifer (Scott), RJ (Corrine), Jeremy (Hannah), Olivia, Emily, Michael and Aiden; his four great-grandchildren - Fern, Veida, Oona & his little buddy Daxton; his brothers Ross and Joe; special friend Tweet, along with numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his only sister Mary Lou Greenfield (Gary); brothers Norm, Roy, Dave, George; his mother and father-in-law, Loretta & Isadore Matthews, and special god daughter Taylor Sainthill.
At this time the family would like to thank the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, VON, EHS, Palliative Care, especially palliative care nurse Julia Penny, who went above and beyond. Special thank you to son-in-law, Roy Marks, for all your help, support and slow dances with dad.
Visitation for Bill will be held from 1-3 pm, Friday, December 5, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor James MacLellan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
Until we meet again, love you always and forever, Marie XO
