It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, William Leslie “Bill” Williams on January 20, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Sydney Mines on October 18, 1945, he was the son of the late William and Jeanette (Hines) Williams.
Bill was a coal miner for much of his life and worked “in the pit” all over Cape Breton Island. In his free-time he loved hunting. He was well known around the community, especially at the Tim Hortons in Florence. He will be missed.
Bill is survived by his sons, John and Darren, along with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; siblings – Jackie (Bud) Herald, Janice (Jeff) Wheeler, and Violet Jamael, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son, Jay, and siblings – Paul, Diane Genter, May LeBlanc, and Yvonne Hines.
