We, the family, announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Born in Glace Bay on August 10, 1964, Billy was the son of the late Robert and Ann (Devison) O’Brien.
Billy was an avid dart player and served as president of the Georges River Volunteer Fire Department mixed dart league for many years. He was a former member of the fire department where he gave his time and served with pride. He was previously employed with First Class Delivery. Billy loved to laugh, socialize and have a good time. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He cherished these moments and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who shared in his laughter and love.
Surviving is his daughter Kaitlynn, and granddaughter Ellie. He is also survived by his bothers Douglas, Stephen (Brenda), John (Donna), Ronald (Phalla), and sisters Mary Cartwright (Arthur), Joanne, and Patricia (Barry), and uncles Dougie O’Brien (Sally), and Joe Devison. Uncle Billy will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was blessed with a large circle of friends including Gordie, Wayne, Michael and Lisa. He was previously deceased by his best friend Greg Jessome, whose passing left a profound void in his life.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 4, at St. Joseph Church, Church Road, Bras d’Or. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. A reception for Billy will immediately follow at the Georges River Fire Hall. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
