It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father grandfather, brother and friend, Alfie Henry, age 88, on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Born in Bathurst, NB on January 31, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Petrie) Henry.

Alf had been employed with CN Marine in North Sydney for over 40 years, retiring as Forman in 1985.

He was a member of the North Sydney Volunteer Fire Department for over 34 years. Alf was very proud to have been instrumental in the construction of the North Sydney Fireman’s Club building where he acted as Forman until its completion.

He was a longtime hunter and fisherman, enjoying many years at his cabin in Whycocomagh and he was an avid bowler.

Alf is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Marie (Merritt) Henry, also by his two children, David and Shauna; by his three grandchildren, David, Shawn, Dennis; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Anthony, Logan, Alexis and by his sister Theresa Gouthro and also by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Gordon in WWII, Dunston, Harold, Gerald, Donald and by three sisters, Hilda, Mabel, and Evelyn.

Visitation for Alf will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
